Privacy policy

Commentary Studio is designed to process media on the user’s device.

Data collection

The Commentary Studio iPhone app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data with the developer. The app contains no account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, tracking technology, or developer-operated server connection.

Camera and microphone

Camera and microphone access is requested when you choose Open camera or Preview camera look. The camera preview does not save a recording. Camera and microphone media is saved only when you tap Record; a red recording indicator and timer remain on screen during recording. Recording people requires appropriate consent.

Captions, camera effects and AI assistance

Camera background effects use Apple's on-device Vision framework. Automatic captions use Apple's on-device Speech framework on supported devices and languages. Speech model assets may need a system-managed download before transcription. Commentary Studio does not send recordings or transcripts to a server for processing.

Optional wording and highlight suggestions use the on-device Apple Intelligence model through Foundation Models when available. Commentary Studio does not use Private Cloud Compute or a remote model provider. Captions, background photos and private talking points are saved locally with the project. Generated suggestions can be reviewed, edited or discarded.

Photos and files

Media is imported only through Apple’s system Photos and Files pickers. Commentary Studio receives access only to items the user selects. Add-only Photos permission is requested only when the user chooses Save to Photos.

Storage and deletion

Imported sources, camera recordings, project timelines, captions, background photos, talking points, and exports are stored in the app’s local container. Deleting a session removes the files associated with that session, except source files still used by another session. Temporary previews and processing files may remain until the app or iOS clears them. Deleting the app removes its local container. Copies saved to Photos, Files or other apps and device backups are controlled separately by you, Apple or the destination provider.

Sharing

Commentary Studio does not share recordings automatically. A recording leaves the app only when you explicitly use Apple’s share sheet or save it to Photos or Files. The privacy practices of the destination you choose then apply.

Purchases

Commentary Studio is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes payment and any in-app purchases. The developer does not receive your payment card details, billing address or Apple Account password. Sales reports Apple gives the developer do not identify you. Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase itself.

Children

The app does not collect personal data from children or other users. It does not contain accounts, public profiles or a community feed.

Support correspondence and this website

If you email support, your email address and the information you voluntarily send are used to respond to your request. Do not include private recordings or sensitive information unless you choose to share them for support. Support correspondence is separate from data stored in the app and may be retained as needed to resolve your request and keep a record of the conversation. You may request deletion by email, subject to any necessary legal retention.

The support and privacy website has no analytics scripts, advertising or contact form. The hosting provider processes ordinary connection information, such as IP addresses and request details, to serve and secure the website under its own policies. This does not give the website access to your app projects or recordings.

Changes and contact

Material changes will be reflected in this policy and its effective date.
